The project “Disruptive change agents: the new breed of leaders in Europe (Breed2Lead)” is implemented in the framework of Erasmus+ School Education programme. This project aims to draw the profile of the new breed of talents required by an entrepreneur-driven innovation ecosystem, known as disruptive change agents. Collect best practices in educational systems around Europe that maybe be used to accelerate, stimulate and develop the future “disruptive change agents”, design a new set of training curricula and materials for educators in order to encourage and facilitate the evolution of the disruptive change agents from an early age.

In order to create a greater push of innovation within Europe, the EU needs to shift its core understanding of entrepreneurship away from a profit-driven model and toward a model of dynamic and systemic intervention led by value-seeking entrepreneurs as disruptive change agents. In this ecosystem, entrepreneurs convert ideas into innovations that break open and redefine entire spaces in the economy, enabling existing blue chip corporations to follow into these new and enlarged markets with greater growth expectations. Entrepreneurs as disruptive change agents are different from small business entrepreneurs because they have a different modus operandi: rather than seek merely profit, they actively seek to identify market failures and create value that establishes a new market and overturns existing networks and structures inå large enterprises.

This is the new breed of talents who goes to work, injecting fresh thinking and novel solutions across a variety of industries. They are not afraid to fail, as this helps them to learn and iterate quickly. Their view is that what disrupts in the short term creates growth and stability in the longer term – and, in the process, creates entirely new categories of economic activity and employment.

The consortium of BREED2LEAD will produce three intellectual outputs.

The first output will identify the Disruptive Change Agent model characteristics and abilities, and set a strategy to monitor the development of these characteristics and abilities

The second output will create the definition of the Disruptive Change Agent and define a methodology framework for identifying, assessing and developing the Disruptive Change Agent abilities.

Finally, the third output of the project will design a teachers’ training plan for applying the methodology developed and create the corresponding didactic materials for that training plan.

BREED2LEAD is a project that comes in support of Europe’s 2020 priorities for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. The project develops a methodology to support the identification, assessment and nourishment of the next generation of leaders who, by the definition of the disruptive change agent, will promote knowledge and innovation across their entities. Sustainability will always be a major consideration in their decision making process, and inclusiveness will feature as an indicator of their leadership performance.

BREED2LEAD aims to redefine the cell (the leader) that will carry Europe out of the economic swamp. It offers the educational systems a specialised methodology for tracing and developing the leaders of tomorrow. We live in times of specialisation and our current systems and practices must evolve towards this direction. The Disruptive Change Agent methodology can be applied by any primary school or regional or national educational authority. Any such implementation will enable better utilisation of the national wealth of young, talented leaders. The European economy stands to gain multiple benefits: start becoming more competitive again, return to economic growth, create more job opportunities.
